Secrets of Happiness

One famous Buddhist Shantideva said, ‘all the happiness in this world comes from the mind wishing for others to be happy,’ which is cherishing others. We can understand this from our own experience from when we really love someone, as opposed to having attachment for them.

Week 1 Mar 3 - A Foundation for Love

We will see how, by learning to cherish others, we develop a basis for stable love and lasting contentment through viewing others as equally important as ourself. In this way we overcome the problem of finding relationships difficult as we learn how to cherish others.

Week 2 Mar 10 - Our Best Friend or Enemy?

In our relationships with others we often experience difficulties. This can often arise due to obstacles in our own mind which provide a barrier to developing love. Learn how our self centeredness acts in this way as the root of these obstacles and how to free ourself so we can develop pure love.

Week 3 Mar 17 - Creating Joy and Happiness

By learning how to cherish others we open our hearts and experience the joy and peace arising from this. Discover the methods of meditation which help us develop this mind of love.

Week 4 Mar 24 - Our True Protector

Buddha so kindly showed how we have all the potential within our minds to gain complete happiness. The most powerful of these is our compassionate nature which functions to help us to maintain peace and happiness even in the most difficult situations and ultimately acts to free us and others from suffering.

Week 5 Mar 31 -  Trading Places

We limit ourselves with regard to how we relate to others and how much we experience from these relationships due to our failure to empathise with others and our focus on ourself. Learn how to feel close to others to enrich your love for others.

Meditation classes - what’s involved?

What to expect at a class

Introductory classes follow a flexible structure, and often begin with a simple breathing meditation exercise to reduce stress, tension, and distractions.

This guided meditation is followed by a talk on how to incorporate meditation techniques and Buddhist principles into daily life. This may include topics such as improving relationships, gaining peace of mind, coping with stress and dealing with anger.

The class may then include another meditation designed to help us gain deeper experience of the subject of the class. Finally, if there is enough time, the class is concluded with questions and answers giving you the opportunity to resolve any unresolved issues.  Here are some short taster videos of meditation talks by Kadampa teachers from around the world.

You do not need any previous experience to attend these classes. Also, you do not need to pre-register. Simply find a location and come to the class.

Class fees:

Per class: £8, or

Course Cards (available at classes)  - costs to be confirmed

Please note that our classes and courses are taught and run entirely by volunteers. All fees go towards operating costs such as transport and venue hire.
