Study programmes

Geshe Kelsang Gyatso, the Founder of the New Kadampa

Tradition, has designed three special spiritual programmes for the systematic study and practice of Kadampa Buddhism that are especially suited to the modern world: the General Programme, the Foundation Programme and the Teacher Training Programme.

General Programme

.

The General Programme provides a basic introduction to meditation and Buddhism and is suitable for beginners. The classes we teach are open to everyone. Our practice is gentle and everyone can learn according to their wish and capacity.

.

Classes are aimed at helping people find peace and happiness by applying meditation techniques to everyday situations. They can be attended on a drop-in basis. For venues throughout South London, Surrey and Kent please click here.

.
Foundation Programme

.

The Foundation Programme provides a systematic presentation of the basic subjects of Mahayana Buddhism. By studying on this program we will gain confidence in meditation, develop our understanding of Buddhism, and learn how to integrate the teachings into our daily lives.

.

Books studied on the Foundation Programme: Joyful Path of Good Fortune, Universal Compassion, Heart of Wisdom, Meaningful to Behold, Understanding the Mind, Eight Steps to Happiness.

.

If you have attended regular beginners’ classes, you may wish to take the next step and join the Foundation Programme. There are currently two programmes taught by Resident Teacher Gen Kelsang Sangye:

Fees: Sunday FP cost is £50 per month and includes free entry to any meditation classes or day courses run by Dorjechang Cente. Wednesday FP cost is £25 per month. Please contact us to join.

.
Teacher Training Programme

.

The Teacher Training Programme is designed for people who wish to train as authentic Dharma Teachers. In addition to completing the study of twelve texts of Sutra and Tantra, the student is required to observe certain commitments with regard to behaviour and way of life, and to complete a number of meditation retreats.

.

We recommend some study on the Foundation Programme before engaging in the Teacher Training Programme. Please contact us for more information.
